Backhousia myrtifolia

We have three Backhousia species by the mailbox, partly because James Backhouse, was a Quaker botanist who visited Australia in the 1840s. The Backhousia leaves are all edible and spicy: we make teas and cordials out of the lemon myrtle and the anisata. The myrtifolia has a christmas spice smell a bit like nutmeg. Maeve and the others regularly gathered all of these leaves fro teas and other potions.
